Welcome
From the end of September the windmill at Windmill Hill will be closed for visitors until the 2024 season (Spring/Summer). During the coming months we will be working behind the scenes to keep the mill maintained and to prepare the machinery for milling.
The sweeps have just been replaced at a cost of £60,000. Please consider sponsoring a shutter to help us maintain the windmill for years to come. Sponsor a shutter.
The windmill at Windmill Hill is the tallest post mill in Sussex and is a Grade II* listed building. It was built in the 1800s and restored 200 years later. Find out more about its history and restoration on the History page.
Groups, including cycling and walking groups are welcome to visit by prior arrangement. School groups are very welcome and we have educational material for 7-11-year-olds. Find out more about visiting the windmill.
