The Windmill is the landmark which gives its name to the village.  It belongs to the community, which means it belongs to all of us.

If you are interested in the social side of the windmill, how the windmill works, its history, its restoration or if you want to meet new people, please join us.   Volunteers of the windmill are a wide mix of people who give a bit or a lot of their time to look after this unique building.

How you can help:

  • Maintenance – The windmill needs continual care and maintenance and all skills are useful. Truly though, you don’t need to be skilled, just willing to help. We need willing people.
  • Mill guides – We have a great team of folk who act as hosts and guides. Would you like to help them in the visitor centre, in the mill or to ‘meet and greet’ people as they arrive? You don’t need to know anything at all about windmills.

If you only get just a little bit involved, you’d be surprised how rewarding it is.  You’ll be making new friends – and doing your bit to help with the upkeep of this fine example of our industrial heritage.

Do come and join us. Please complete the Volunteer registration form (new volunteers) and sent it to the Windmill Hill Windmill Trust, The Old Bakery, Windmill Hill, Hailsham, BN27 4RT.  We’ll help you learn everything you need to know and you’d find a big welcome is waiting for you.
