Restoration II

english_compact_pantone

On the 26th February 2015 the sweeps were taken down and have been transported to the millwrights workshops.  Shutters will be made and they will be put back around the end of July.  Restoration of the machinery is continuing along with the refurbishment of exterior steps to trestle floor.

This work is the final stage of the restoration of the windmill which was on the English Heritage ‘At Risk register and was rescued from dereliction in 1996.  The first stage of the restoration with a grant of £557,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund enabled the mill to be restored and made available to the public in 2006. It has always been the ‘dream’ to restore the mill to complete working order and capable of producing flour for the first time in over 100 years!! Our recent Heritage Lottery Fund award of £80,800 will enable us to do this.

Thank you all for your support on this fantastic project to bring the Windmill at Windmill Hill back to working order and grinding flour once more.
